CONNIE CUSICK
Interior StyList
Change Your Environment and You Change Your Life
Upon entering Connie’s Connecticut studio, it’s clear that she can turn her hand to Interior Styling as easily as she can inspire individuals to change their lives. Describing Connie Cusick as an Interior Designer or Life Coach doesn’t truly do her justice. She can turn any antique into a modern piece or an individual’s strengths into a new business venture. Changing the scenery in one’s home and life motivates her to design and inspire everyday. It’s her personal touch and attention to detail that ensures that her home is every bit as desirable as her fresh perspective on life. Inspiration is everything to her.
What are your obsessions? I love breathing new life back into things-whether it’s a distressed object or vintage jewelry. I find the beauty in the history of the old.
How do you describe your style? My style is simple but spontaneous. I love the contrast of pieces from different periods and I enjoy using things in unexpected ways.
How have your careers as a Designer and Life Coach influenced how you decorate? My work involves finding fresh perspective in peoples lives and design in their homes. I am inspired everyday by interacting with my clients.
How is one-of-a-kind different than high street?
It’s just so much more intimate. I love the personal touch and enjoy finding one-of-a-kind pieces for my home. My favorite chair, for example, was found at a local thrift store and I covered it in a beautiful white fabric. It’s has a fabulous antique-modern look.
What is your approach to color?
I try to create a simple and elegant atmosphere by using a warm palette of white, brown and green. I like the subtle injections of brighter colors like orange because it has more strength against a neutral background.
How do you relax?
I cherish spending wonderful times with my family. When I find “me” time, I am never happier than when I am creating accessories, ripping out tear sheets from magazines, making vision boards or being inspired by a fantastic movie.
What do you like about living near NYC?
I love the furious speed of the city. I am always running 100 miles per hour and so is New York City. Also, I love living in Connecticut and heading to local flea markets and discovering other people’s treasures!
What lasting impression do you want to make when friends visit your home?
I want them to feel as though they live here too, like a home away from home. A warm and inviting atmosphere.
